Birnbeck Island, Somerset
Multi-purpose Tower and Barrage Proposal

World energy research centre, powered by a barrage set around the island utilising the natural resource of tidal flows in the Bristol Channel.

The central tower combines laboratories allowing research and development projects, accommodation for researchers and staff, and exhibition, conference and observation spaces to inform the public of activities on the island.

The barrage guarantees a water level of 2.5m minimum allowing the creation of a marina gathered around the island, therefore injecting life into the neglected island.

In addition, the re-establishing of a ferry link with South Wales and North Devon with a separate landing proposed on the outside of the barrage would bring further prosperity to the area.
