Student Accommodation
Planning consent obtained for the proposed redevelopment of the former Globe Sports site, providing 39 study bedrooms arranged in clusters to create 9 student apartments with shared kitchens, in close proximity to the Bristol University campus and city centre amenities.
The existing street facade and historic walls are retained and refurbished to maintain the continuity of the Conservation Area.
The historic haulingway is reopened and archways uncovered to showcase the previous light industrial use of the site.
A new T-shaped building at the rear of the site features massing which echoes the backland infil seen as an important part of the character of the area.
Varied roof forms are in keeping with the adjacent properties, and the articulation of the facades provides an interesting outlook to the multi-storey tower block at the south of the site.
The introduction of a green roof and provision for future links to the city’s district heating program help this brownfield development minimise its impact whilst helping to sustain the Conservation Area through active use and preservation of its buildings.
